Strata....by Susan Lenz

The "Strata Series" was inspired by the cross-sectional profiles of the earth. The resulting series was worked on water-soluble fabric in free motion machine embroidery. The series was SHORT LIVED. Thus, this blog is a place to BURY blog posts....in the cross-sectional profiles. It functions as a support area for my "main" blog which is Art in Stitches by Susan Lenz.

Til Death Do Us Part
24" x 18"
Gay pride flag, polyester stretch velvet, beads; hand and machine stitching.
$500 retail

This piece was made for Karen Musgrave's CLAWS (Crossing the Line: Artists at Work), a group of approximately twenty art quilters who are dedicated to making a 24" x 18" art quilt every six months in response to a given exhibition theme.  The exhibition theme is "social issues".  The title for upcoming traveling exhibitions is Art Can't Hurt You

I selected "same gender marriages" as my social issue.  Friends and neighbors shared their traced left hand prints and their anniversary dates for the piece.  It was created on a real gay pride flag.  The flag header is hand stitched with the following words:  For richer or poorer. In sickness or health.  Til death do us part.

My statement is:  A vow is a vow.  Love abides forever.
